※We are not currently recruiting apprentices.
At Ajigawa Stable, we strive to discover as many promising young wrestlers as possible.
If you know of any young people in your hometown or neighborhood who might be interested, please introduce them to us. Self-recommendations or recommendations by others are both welcome.

Entry Requirements

The basic qualifications for the new apprentice examination, held before each tournament, include being a healthy male who has completed compulsory education, meeting the specified height and weight requirements, and being under 23 years old. For those who have achieved certain results in amateur competitions specified by the Japan Sumo Association, the age limit is under 25 years old. The application for the wrestler examination must be submitted through a stable master along with the required documents as specified by the Japan Sumo Association. Furthermore, you must pass the health check conducted by a doctor designated by the Japan Sumo Association and pass the new apprentice examination to be officially recognized as a sumo wrestler.

Height and Weight Requirements (As of July 2013)

Height: 167 cm or taller
Weight: 67 kg or more
However, for those taking the new apprentice examination in the March tournament
who are expected to graduate from junior high school, the following requirements apply:
Height: 165 cm or taller
Weight: 67 kg or more
